What kind of fill does my rocking chair cushion have?If you're going to replace your cushion, or have a new one custom made, it is going to be important to make sure that you get the right comfort out of your replacement.
The two typical styles we see on the market today are flat and puffy. The more inexpensive cushions are made with flat poly foam. You can achieve various levels of comfort by adjusting the thickness of foam.
The second, is going to be your puffy style, where the cushion is filled with a loose poly fill. The result is typically a more plush look and feel, similar to a pillow.
What size rocking chair cushion do I need?Rocking chairs come in three standard sizes. On each size, the cushion is tapered so that is is wider in front than in back.
For quick sizing you can use the depth of the cushion to determine the size rocking chair you have.
Small rocking chairs have approximate 13.5 " depth, medium size rocking chairs have an approximate 16" depth, and large rocking chairs have an approximate depth of 20". With all other measurements being proportional, the depth is probably the easiest way to determine size.
How do I choose the right fabric for my chair cushion? Some of the determining quality features that you'll bee looking for when picking the perfect rocking chair cushion will be durability, warranty, cleaning instructions, and intended use (indoor/outdoor).
Aside from making sure that the fabric is has the right colors and designs, it's important to assure that it will hold up to your level of wear and tear, and that it will last for an acceptable amount of time in the environment that you'll be keeping it in.
Many outdoor fabric manufactures even offer fade warranties!
If investing in quality cushions for your outdoor or indoor set, you'll want to know
one very important thing that many discount online retailers won't tell you -
That's right, many of the inexpensive chair cushions imported today don't even have traditional zippers for removing the cushion and washing. Even worst, the zippers are normally placed along the back edge of the cushion to conceal them from sight, so it's very difficult to tell if they are there from photographs or online pictures.
